Product Description

A common way to treat the surface of carbon steel Secure Weld round nuts is to plate them with zinc. This electroplated layer helps protect against rust, keeping the nut in good shape while it’s stored or being shipped, before it gets welded.

It’s good to know that the zinc right around where the weld happens will burn off when you install it. But the zinc left on the rest of the nut still gives some protection to the parts that don’t get hit by the welding heat. Protect it from oxidation by oxygen in the air.

If you need better rust protection and you're not welding right on the plated part, you can get carbon steel Secure Weld round nuts with hot-dip galvanizing. This process puts on a much thicker, longer-lasting zinc coating. Make it have a longer working life.

But usually, you have to grind the area where you'll weld clean first to get a good bond. That thick zinc can mess with the welding arc and make weak, porous joints if you don't. That's why they work well for parts that are pre-made before welding.
