Most Type A Square Weld Nuts are made from low to medium carbon steel—like Grade 2, Grade 5, or 1008/1010 steel. The core reason for the excellent performance of this steel is that it achieves a scientific and stable balance among weldability, structural strength and cost control.
The carbon in it makes the threads hard enough to hold up, but it’s still flexible enough to form clean projections and weld reliably without getting too brittle. These nuts have good tensile and shear strength for regular industrial uses.
Picking the right material matters. Its parameter setting/selection must be precisely matched with the actual welding effect and the strength requirements of the connected parent material to ensure that the mechanical properties of the welded joint meet the overall structural requirements.

If you need better resistance to rust or use them in high-temperature situations, Type A Square Weld Nuts are also made from stainless steel like 304 or 316, or alloys such as A286. Stainless steel has excellent oxidation resistance, chemical corrosion resistance and stability in harsh environments, but the parameter settings during the welding process must be extremely cautious, otherwise it may affect performance. Alloy versions are stronger and can handle higher temperatures better.
For this type of nut, the material selection of stainless steel and alloy is not only directly related to the stability and reliability of its working performance, but also has a key impact on its service life in harsh environments such as ocean, chemical processing, aerospace, etc.
We supply Type A Square Weld Nuts that come in a lot of standard metric threads—like M4, M5, M6, M8, M10, M12—and UNC/UNF imperial threads, such as #10-32, 1/4"-20, 5/16"-18.
Standard thickness is usually around 3mm to 8mm, and it changes depending on the thread size. Specific sizes for each square weld nut are in our product catalog.
