Type SB Shackles

Type SB shackles are made using certified alloy steel that meets DIN 34820 and ASTM A489 standards. Every production batch goes through spectrographic analysis to check the chemical makeup, and then Charpy impact testing to make sure they’re tough enough. They provide Mill Test Certificates (MTCs) to track where the materials come from, and for the EU and UK markets, these shackles have CE/UKCA markings.

If you need them for nuclear or aerospace jobs, there are special versions that have been radiation-tested and have higher purity. The way they control the materials is strict, which means Type SD shackles work the same way even in the toughest situations.

Regular inspection

To keep Type SB shackles in good shape longer, check them every so often for cracks, bent spots, or rust. If they have been around salt or chemicals, wash them off with plain water after that. Once a year, slap some lithium grease on the pins,it keeps things loose. Avoid harsh cleaners or scrubbers that might scrape up the galvanized coating; a soft brush or rag works fine.

Store them somewhere dry, and toss a breathable cover or cloth over them so moisture doesn’t get trapped. If a shackle looks over 10% worn or bent weird, stop using it and replace it. Can it be used in extreme temperatures or heavy-duty lifting?

Type SB shackles handle temps from -40°C to 200°C (-40°F to 392°F), so they’ll work in most job sites or factories. The heat-treated metal stays strong for heavy lifts, and the zinc coating doesn’t flake off easily under heat. But if you’re using them non-stop above 200°C (392°F), grab a heat-resistant coating instead. When in doubt, double-check the manual or hit up the manufacturer for advice on extreme conditions.
