Product Materials and Properties

Durable Wing Nuts are usually made of two materials:

（1）Carbon steel (Grade 4, Grade 5, Grade 8)

They are treated with galvanization or hot-dip galvanization, providing basic rust protection.

Strength: Depending on the grade, the tensile strength ranges from 400 to 800 megapascals.

Hardness: 100 - 250 Brinell hardness

Suitable for indoor or mild outdoor environments.

（2）Stainless steel (304, 316)

No coating is required - this alloy inherently has rust prevention properties.

Strength: 500 - 700 megapascals (A2 - 70 / A4 - 70)

Its hardness is lower than quenched carbon steel, but more malleable.

Perfect for humid, salty or chemical environments.

Key characteristics of durability

Wing - Through cold heading, the wing will not break during normal use.

Thread rolling process - The rolled threads are denser than the cut threads and are more resistant to loosening.

Wear resistance - Stainless steel can maintain longer durability in severely worn or humid environments; however, the carbon steel parts of the wing will eventually show signs of wear.

Introduction to Product Surface Treatment

The Durable Wing Nuts undergo surface treatment based on their usage location. Here is a brief description.

（1）Galvanization (Electro-galvanization)

This is the most common surface treatment method. The coating is thin and the cost is low. It can provide basic rust protection for indoor or mild outdoor environments, but this coating may flake off after repeated operations.

（2）Hot-dip galvanization

The zinc layer is thicker (40-80 microns). It is very suitable for outdoor, humid or water-rich environments. The salt spray test can reach 400-500 hours.

（3）Black oxide layer

A thin conversion coating, with almost no rust protection function. It is only suitable for dry indoor environments or can be chosen for special requirements.

（4）Stainless steel passivation treatment

It is a chemical cleaning process. It can remove iron impurities on the surface and restore the original oxide layer of stainless steel. It does not increase thickness and does not peel off.
