The BSPT Male Internal Hex Plug structure is very sturdy, so it is not complicated to use. However, there are still a few points that require extra attention.
【1】Preparation before Installation
(1)Choose the correct size: Ensure that the interface is an NPT thread.
(2)Check the threads: Observe whether there are any burrs or scratches on the threads of the BSPT Male Internal Hex Plug, and also ensure that the internal threads of the interface are clean, without any iron filings or remnants of old adhesive tape.
(3)Prepare the sealing tape or sealant: Although the NPT tapered threads have their own self-sealing property, to ensure no oil leakage or air leakage, it is strongly recommended to wrap the sealing tape or apply the liquid threaded sealant.
【2】Wrap the raw material tape
(1)Direction: Wrap clockwise from the threaded tail (the end close to the hexagonal head) towards the threaded end.
(2)Number of turns: Generally, wrap 3 to 6 times.
(3)Don't cover the first tooth: Leave the first 1 to 2 teeth at the very front of the thread unsecured. This can prevent the debris from the glue tape from falling into the system.
【3】Tightening steps
(1)Pre-tighten by hand: First, insert the BSPT Male Internal Hex Plug into the hole by hand. Just make sure it goes in smoothly and the threads are aligned properly.
(2)Tighten with an internal hexagonal wrench: Find an internal hexagonal wrench of the appropriate size (the sides of the hexagon should match), insert it into the hexagonal hole, and start tightening.
(3)How many turns? After manually tightening all the way, continue to use a wrench to tighten about 1.5 to 3 turns (approximately). (NPT is a conical thread. There is no need to press the sealing ring tightly against the end face. Just tighten a little more when you feel there is obvious resistance.)
(4)Torque reference
| NPT Specification | Torque (N·m) |
| 1/8″ | 7-10 |
| 1/4″ | 16-22 |
| 3/8″ | 19-43 |
| 1/2″ | 43-54 |
| 3/4″ | 54-65 |
| 1″ | 70-81 |
【4】Post-installation inspection
After the installation is completed, apply pressure to the system and observe if there is any leakage around the BSPT Male Internal Hex Plug.
If there is a slight leakage, you can try tightening it another 1/4 turn.
If there are still leaks, remove the part and inspect the threads and the sealing tape. Re-wrap the tape and then reinstall it.
